Blessed Sacrament School offers a strong academic program, based on Diocesan standards. Students learn reading, writing, language arts, math, science, social studies, religion, foreign language, fine arts and physical education.
Catholic identity and religion infuse our entire curriculum so that faith and studies come together in a meaningful way for our students and families. Living out our faith through service to others is also emphasized.
Throughout all grade levels, our curriculum is values-infused, developmentally appropriate and designed to challenge and motivate each student.
At Blessed Sacrament School, we expect each child to put forth their greatest effort to achieve academic excellence.
The Multi-Age Classroom
One of the things that sets Blessed Sacrament School apart is its multi-age classrooms. There are many advantages to this approach. The natural living environment for adults and children in the home, school and workplace is multi-age. Socially, a multi-age classroom allows children to know classmates from several different grades. Knowing children of different ages makes a child comfortable in the school and on the playground.
As children "move up" in each unit, they become the "older kids" for the youngest grade in the unit. They have a chance to exhibit values of sharing, concern and patience with the younger children. They help the younger children become more independent and mature.
Multi-age classrooms have built-in flexibility and mobility. Grade levels are minimized and the child can be placed at an appropriate instructional level. This enables each child to be comfortable with his or her own placement and progress.
In a multi-age classroom, teachers are able to accelerate, remediate, and differentiate instruction to ensure that each child is challenged at an appropriate level. Mrs. Megan Richards, author, has taught at Blessed Sacrament for more than 10 years and says she cannot imagine teaching any other way!
